Director's Message
(November 2000)

Congratulations to all the winners this year at the 2000 International Show. From the feed back, it sounds as though everyone had a great time.

The FEBRUARY 2001 Board Meeting will be held in Portland, Oregon at the Airport Sheraton Hotel. The February meeting we will be going over Breeds & Standards. If you have a particular question that needs addressing, please forward it to me by the first of January.

The following is a list that I've compiled along with input from others.

  1. Number of entries per show in each region (breakdown).
  2. Combined average of entries for shows in each region
  3. Combined national average of entries in all CFA shows from all regions.
  4. Be sure to include the International Division shows in count. Perhaps a survey could be made in each region for the shows holding clubs so they can give some hard data on just how their shows are from a financial standpoint and what measures they are taking to succeed. They can list problems they are having.
  5. Give list of what airlines will cooperate and how many cats will they take onboard?
  6. How many will allow cats to be checked in cargo with passenger when checking in at airport?

I want to mention; a year ago the Northwest Region compiled a survey and this was submitted.

MESSAGE FROM CFA PURBRED RESCUE COMMITTEE, CO-CHAIRMAN

I want to thank you all for being so patient. The breeders/cat fanciers that assisted us by spending hours at the Stanislaus County Facility evaluating the cats have furnished us with a detailed report on all the cats at the shelter.

We have also gotten a commitment from major airlines to ship the cats at reduced fees. In addition we are attempting to get carriers donated as well. The next step is to match potential volunteers for foster homes or permanent adoptions with each cat.

These poor kitties have had a rough time of it - please help out however you can. Those of you that can't take a cat in but want to help in some way donations are also needed. Send them to the CFA Purebred Rescue Committee, 1805 Atlantic Avenue, Manasquan, NJ 08736, be sure to designate on the outside of the envelope funds for the PRC.

If you are volunteering to take a cat please indicate the cats #, (I can and will forward a list of cats) and be sure to include a first, second, and third choice. We will be going on a first come first serve bases. Your will be notified next week of the cat you will be receiving and we will then start making shipping arrangements. I will also be at the International Show this weekend to answer questions.

Some of you have expressed concern over the legal ownership of these cats. We have explained to the shelter that our group cannot take any cats from the Stainislause County Facility until the CFA attorney has legal documentation of proof of relinquishment in his possession. We will also furnish a copy of said documentation to anyone requesting it.

MORE ABOUT THE CFA PUREBRED RESCUE COMMITTEE

"The PRCs (Purebred Rescue Committee) purpose is to train various clubs and breed groups around the county in establishing successful rescue programs. We then hope to network the various rescue programs together through a CFA endorsed web site, thereby aiding in the placement of cats. For example if a Turkish Angora is rescued in New Jersey and there is someone in Oklahoma wanting a rescued Angora we put the two together. We are also hoping to establish a standard method of dealing with situations just like the Rexelle seizure."

We are extremely lucky here in the Upper Northwest to have Purebred/Pedigreed Cat Rescue. This wonderful group's Mission Statement is "We are a group of concerned cat fanciers with the Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. (CFA) who seek to improve the life conditions of pedigreed cats of all breeds recognized by the various organizations.

We plan to do this through education, identification, rescue and placement.

Our goal is to reduce the abandonment and surrender to shelters of pedigreed cats.

This group has written the standard on "How to."

At the Northwest Regional Qualifier, thanks to Bobbie Irie, she sold her delightful cat teasers for $1 and raised $101, which was turned over to this group. The Cat Purebred Rescue is a 501.c.3 which makes ALL donations tax deductible. THANKS BOBBI!

DONATION I have received a receipt from Stanislaus County Department of Animal Service for $1000, which helped toward the Rexelle cats.

JUDGING PROGRAM In October the board passed a judging program recommendation which I posted in the last message. There is an election of Directors at Large coming up and I think that's it time they be accountable for their actions.

Directors voting against this change are as follows, Malinen, Roy, Jacobberger, Eigenhauser, DelaBar, Lee & Williams.

Those voting in favor (and this is my own opinion) could not pass the requirements we have in place at this time. One must stop and ask "how many cattery inspections, judge's schools @$200 have they attended." Perhaps just seven years and two grand champions? I can think of several people who have been in the Fancy for about 10 years and started out showing beautiful Premiers, and now Premiers will not count! * p/>

When will it be learned, it's the clubs that ask the judges to judge, if they don't like you, they just won't ask you. Let's give credit to the clubs and their membership who they want and think will do the best job.

REGIONAL AWARDS SHOW in 2001 will be held in Seattle the first weekend in June. If anyone has taken pictures this year they want to show On the Road, please email or send them to me. If you think you'll have a Regional Winner please send the picture to me via email or photo.

QUALIFIER 2001 Anyone in the California area that would like to host the 2001 Qualifier please contact me as soon as possible. If there are no suggestions by the first of the year, it will be in Portland.

CALENDARS FOR 2001 The 2001 regional calendars with traditional show dates are now available for sale for $20, proceeds help the Region. This year I was able to get $300 from Royal Canin towards advertising, I was also able to have the same donation for Region 5.

Please remember the February board meeting, if you have anything on your mind you need an answer for, please send it along.

Sincerely,

Lorna Malinen
