Regional Director's Corner

The October Board Meeting was held October 3-4, 2009 - Darrell Newkirk has posted his unofficial meeting notes.

July 9, 2009:

GREETINGS TO THE NORTHWEST REGION,

I thought I would take a minute and update you on the events that have taken place since the last Regional meeting in April. It’s been a busy time! This will be long, so please bear with me!

We had a wonderful Regional Awards Show and Banquet in Reno, NV the first weekend in June. I would again like to thank High Sierra Cat Club with most able show manager Carol Freels. for hosting the Regional show. Also, many thanks to co-chairs for the banquet committee Jean Grimm and Kathy Gumm. Judging from feedback, a good time was had by all. As soon as the final numbers are in I will let all of you know how we did financially on the show/banquet project.

Next year our Region 2 awards show and banquet will be in Portland, Oregon, and co-chairs for the event are Tammy Roark and Kathy Durdick. Plans are in motion.

REGIONAL AWARDS
In an attempt to save the Region some money, awards that were not picked up at the banquet will be available for pickup at The No Pussy Footin’ Around show in Chehalis WA of 7/25/09 and at the Portland Pacific Rim/Fort Vancouver 6x6 show the third weekend in August. After that show, any awards will be mailed to the recipients. If you can help deliver an award or pick up your own award, it would be appreciated as we want to be frugal with regional funds.

JUDGING ANNOUNCEMENTS
Please congratulate Dennis Ganoe on his advancement to Approval Pending Allbreed Judge. This is a long and arduous process and we’re really pleased to have another AB judge in our region.

Lorna Malinen is taking a 6 month medical leave of abscense starting immediately and ending 1/1/2010. My hopes are that she will be back in the judging ring in January of 2010, While it would not be appropriate to discuss medical details, please join me is wishing Lorna a rapid and full healing process and recovery.

NEW WEBSITE
Again, profound thanks to Kathy Durdick for the design, set-up and implementation of the new NWR website. New things and services will be added as we go along. Please help support the Region - and show off your beautiful cats! - by adding your pictures of your 2009-10 grands and DMs to the site. A $5 charge is in place for the GC /GP photos and DM photos will be placed on the site at no charge. If the photo you placed on the site is needed for next years awards, then the photo can be forwarded from the site to the person doing the awards booklets thus saving you time and energy.

OMBUDSMAN SERVICES
CFA has ombudsman services to help you resolve /mediate contract issues that may have been filed as a protest issue. Pam Huggins is the current ombudsman and CFA is looking to expand the program. Criteria for being considered for the volunteer position would be a person with a strong human resources background and an in-depth knowledge of CFA. If you would like to function in this capacity and are interested in learning more please contact Pam Delabar at SATLTC1@aol.com .

This ombudsman service is a non-authorative process to help mediate and resolve contractual disputes and there is no charge for the service. There is no sharing of the information from the ombudsman process with any other process or agency should the mediation fail and the dispute goes into the formal CFA protest process or into civil litigation. At the point of CFA official protest or civil litigation the case would be closed by the ombudsman and there would be no input from the ombudsman into any other process.

NEW SHOW FORMAT
A new show format – 2 day 10 rings is being considered. Final discussion and vote on the format will be complete by the October Board meeting. If your club is wanting to try this format please contact me and I will take the request to the Board. The 10 ring format would have a maximum of 6AB rings/minimum 4 SP rings. This format does not require 2 clubs to host the show and is considered one show. The 6x6 format remains 2 clubs in participation as the format is considered to be 2 - 6 ring shows back-to-back on the same weekend.

The Board is also looking at ways to help and support the smaller clubs with show production and are soliciting your ideas. Things like reduced show license fee, scheduling ease etc are being discussed. Please send me your ideas and I’ll out them on the table for discussion.

MEET THE BREEDS
A website will be launched in July for this event www.MeetTheBreeds.com Please check the site for further information. This is the first event of it’s kind in conjunction with AKC and I encourage you to support it however you can. The event will be held at the Jacob Javitz Center in NYC on October 17/18.

6x6 FORMAT
A 6x6 format show was approved by the Board for our region. The show will combine the efforts of the Santa Clara Valley Cat Club and the Reveler’s Cat Club with the show to be held on the first weekend in November 2009. More details will be available as the clubs produce their show flyer. If your club is interested in this format the guidelines will be posted on the NWR website or you can contact me and I’ll email them to you.

RESCUES
I’m not aware of any active rescues in our region and would continue to encourage all of you, as you are able, to contribute to the CFA Animal Welfare. I’m sure there will be on-going needs to be met. If you would like to earmark your donation for Region 2 you may do that otherwise funds can be used where there is a need.

COMMUNICATION
With the help of Dennis Ganoe a yahoo list has been created for NWR Club Presidents and Secretaries. If you have not received an invitation please contact Dennis at dganoe@aracnet.com. If your club officers change please notify Dennis to get the list updated and complete. If you have received an invitation and have not yet joined, please do so. On-going communication is important to keep things running smoothly. This gives us all a way to get answers to questions, discuss regional issues and work more closely together.

BOARD MEETING
The next scheduled Board meeting in the first weekend in October 2009 and will be held in a teleconference format. Official minutes will be posted to the website when they are available..

SHOW SECRETARIES
Please remember to send me the exhibitor lists from your shows and indicate new exhibitors so I can send them a “thank-you” for supporting your show.

Thank you again for all your input. Please be in touch!

Ginger Meeker,
Regional Director, NWR
