Director's Notes from CFA Board Meetings

Director's Messages

Director's Message

(October 2004)

Dear Northwest Region members,

Thank you for electing me to once again serve as your regional director. We have some great opportunities ahead to show our leadership and be highly visible in CFA.

Our biggest challenge will be to host the 2006 CFA 100th anniversary meeting in Reno. Your assistance will be key in making this a success. In addition, the region will be hosting the 2005 and 2006 International shows in San Mateo.

Over the next 2 years, I'd like our region to concentrate on five goals as we carry out our activities:

  1. Financial health - We need CFA as a whole and the clubs in our region to be financially healthy in order to fulfill our charter for the welfare of all cats.

  2. Grow -- We need to grow in order to ensure our financial health. In order to grow, we must increase CFA's reputation which encompasses 3 things:

    • awareness of CFA (e.g., favorable media attraction, International show);
    • people referencing CFA; and,
    • people using CFA (more gate, more exhibitors, more people wanting to purchase CFA cats).

  3. Re-enlist champions -- Over time, we've become jaded and have lost our enthusiasm for CFA, for the region, for our shows. We've lost our fellow exhibitors to other organizations or to other activities. It's time to bring the passion for CFA back, both in ourselves and our fellows.

  4. Work with our partners - We need to work with our partners to help us meet our goals. Our partners include the vendors providing financial support, our rescue groups and CFA affiliates like the Winn Foundation, the Sy Howard Legislative Fund, and the CFA Rescue Fund. More than ever before, the Winn Foundation needs your support to fund cat research.

  5. Simplify our processes - This goal may pertain more to Central Office operations, but we need to make our processes easier to use.

So, it comes down to 12 words: financial health, grow, re-enlist champions, work with our partners and simplify our processes. These 12 words provide the framework to energize our region.

If you'll be at the NW region qualifier show, I'll be holding a meeting Sunday morning to also summarize the activities of the October board meeting.

I look forward to working with you once again.

* I wish I could claim credit for creating these 5 goals, but they were really delineated first by my company..
